Nonprofit and Small-Organization Systems
Bounded engineering for organizations that cannot staff a full bench: a troublesome website, a feature, or an upgrade path that keeps the current system where it is still the cheapest honest option.
Keep what works
Enterprise Judgment. Organization-Sized Bill.
Churches, community theater, assistance and resource tracking, scheduling, and document upload. The problems are the same class as larger estates; the constraint is cost and volunteer or part-time operation. Some of this work has been pro bono.
Scope
Side consulting throughout the career, alongside titled roles. Typical outcomes: a running site or feature, a maintainable upgrade path, and notes the next volunteer or vendor can follow. Make-do environments are expected; the system still gets documented for the next volunteer or vendor.
The first engagement in this line was a late-1980s application for a nonprofit call center: donor and contribution tracking on a single green-screen desktop, followed by the data entry into that system.
Settings
Small and cash-strapped organizations; independent consulting practices that keep this work on the bench as a standing offer.
